The Historic Savannah Theatre

The Historic Savannah Theatre, built all the way back December 4th 1818, is America's oldest continually operating theatre. It first show was 'Soldier's Daughter' and 'Raising The Wind'. Designed and built by architect William Jay, who also designed other buildings in Savannah, this theatre was the center of nightlife for people back in early Savannah. The shows that were staged in the Savannah Theatre drew great crowds and were widely renowned.

In 1948, after a massive fire and the Savannah Theatre, its current Art Deco facade was installed. While not exactly blending in with the rest of Chippewa Squares historic homes, the Theatre adds a bit of charm and beauty in its' own way.

Last restored in 2002, the Savannah Theatre offers Theatre goers an experience of old meets new. State of the art sound and lighting systems enhance the shows which still are performed at the Theatre.
