Discover Historic America now offers historic walking tours in New Orleans

Discover Historic New Orleans

Discover Historic America is proud to start offering daytime walking history tours in New Orleans. One of America’s most historic cities, New Orleans is a perfect addition to the Discover America family.

Over the last year, we have been hard at work uncovering New Orleans most interesting moments in history. We’d be lying if we said it has been easy. We pride ourselves on telling the true history of our cities, and it takes some time to get to the real story, the real history. You cannot simply do a Google search and use what you find. You have to go into the historical archives; you spend hundreds of hours straining your eyes over 200-year-old newspapers. We’d also be lying if we said this experience hasn’t been highly rewarding!

In a city like New Orleans, where we have numerous competitors offering history tours, we knew we had to do something special, something nobody else was doing. After all, if we told the same stories as everyone else does, what would make our tours unique? We believe we found the answers to those questions in our research. We found new angles, new times in history that have been forgotten. And these moments in history are what we use to create our history tours. Even a tour such as the Garden District, we found a completely new and unique way to tell the story of this beautiful neighborhood.

We will be offering four historical walking tours starting on September 1st, 2015. Exploring a wide range of topics, these tours are a history buff’s dream.

New Orleans Cemetery Tour

St. Louis Cemetery is New Orleans’ oldest and most historic cemetery. And we love showing people the hidden history of this maze of tombs and vaults! On Mondays through Saturdays you can join our tour guides as we explore St. Louis Cemetery, at 11 am and 1 pm. On Sundays, our tours only run at 10 am due to the Cemetery locking up at 12 pm.

On this historical tour of St. Louis Cemetery, you’ll be amazed by the stories you’ll hear. The history of St. Louis Cemetery is very impressive. And the people who are laid to rest inside are no less interesting. From Marie Laveau to Homer Plessy, St. Louis Cemetery is the final resting place for many famous New Orleanians.
